The city council preferred her from the list of a total of 27 candidates. Eleven women and sixteen men applied. Utrecht residents expressed their preference for a female mayor from the start.
A trust committee nominated two names tonight. In the end, the council was decisive. Dijksma was received with loud applause. According to the committee, the Alderman for Traffic and Transport of Amsterdam can further expand Utrecht’s strengths. “She is a booster. Someone who acts with practical wisdom and self-awareness. She is visible and approachable. This is how she symbolizes all Utrecht residents”, is the substantiation.
Get to know everyone
The city council is looking forward to the collaboration. Dijksma indicated via a video link that he ‘wanted to be mayor for all Utrecht residents’. “Under strict rules I would like to get to know everyone quickly. It is a difficult time.” She says she has ‘seen Utrecht change and flourish’.
49-year-old Dijksma is looking forward to her new position. “We will soon come to Utrecht with the family to live in this beautiful city.”
