Sharjah Successfully Concludes Fourth West Asian Paralympic Games

Sharjah successfully brought down the curtain on the activities of the Fourth West Asian Paralympic Games, which were held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, and hosted by Al-Thiqa Club for the Disabled, during the period from January 27 to February 3 of this year.

The fourth edition of the West Asian Paralympic Games, which was held under the generous patronage of His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, was successfully concluded, and was hosted by Al Thiqa Club for the Disabled, during the period from January 27 to February 3 of this year.

513 participants from 11 countries competed in the tournament, in addition to 454 executive committees, referees and volunteers, led by the UAE, the host country, along with Jordan, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iraq, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait, Lebanon, and Yemen. They competed in 7 The main sports are: athletics, table tennis, badminton, goalball, wheelchair basketball, boccia, and power lifting.

The UAE team won the gold medal in wheelchair basketball after defeating its Iraqi counterpart in the final match with a score of 52-43, while the Saudi team won the bronze medal after defeating its Bahraini counterpart with a score of 57-42.

The Iraqi team was able to win the gold medal in the goalball competition, after defeating the Jordanian team, 11-7, and the Saudi team won bronze after defeating its Qatari counterpart, 12-8.

Iraq wins the Doura Shield

At the conclusion of the competitions, Iraq won the shield of the Fourth West Asian Games with a large tally of 69 colored medals, 36 gold, 25 silver, and 8 bronze. The UAE came in second place in the final overall standings, with 73 colored medals, including 25 gold and 23 silver. And 25 bronze medals, and Saudi Arabia won third place with 51 colored medals, 17 gold, 23 silver, and 11 bronze.

Athletics competitions.. The UAE wins 19 gold medals

In athletics competitions, Iraq won 17 gold, 14 silver, and 7 bronze medals, while the UAE team won 19 gold, 14 silver, and 19 bronze medals, and Saudi Arabia won 11 gold, 14 silver, and 6 bronze medals.

Weightlifting competitions

In the weightlifting competitions, the UAE won 3 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze, Saudi Arabia won a bronze medal, Bahrain won a silver and a bronze medal, Jordan won a gold medal, Syria won two gold medals, and the Sultanate of Oman won a silver medal.

Ping Pong

In table tennis, Iraq won 5 golds and 3 silvers, Saudi Arabia won 3 golds, 4 silvers and 2 bronzes, Jordan won a gold and a bronze, and Syria won a silver and a bronze.

Badminton…Iraq is in the lead

In the badminton competitions, Iraq won 10 golds and a silver medal, the UAE won 4 silver medals, Saudi Arabia won 2 silvers, Bahrain won 1 silver and 6 bronzes, Jordan won 1 bronze, Syria won a silver, and Lebanon won a silver and a bronze.

Boccia competitions

Iraq won 3 gold, 6 silver and 1 bronze medals in the boccia competitions, the UAE won 2 gold, 1 silver and 2 bronze, Saudi Arabia won 3 gold, 3 silver and 1 bronze, Bahrain won 2 gold and 2 bronze, and the Sultanate of Oman won a bronze medal.

In his speech at the conclusion of the Fourth West Asian Paralympic Games – Sharjah 2024, His Excellency Dr. Tariq Sultan bin Khadim, Chairman of the Supreme Organizing Committee of the Games, extended his deepest thanks and appreciation to His Highness Sheikh Dr. Sultan bin Muhammad Al Qasimi, Member of the Supreme Council and Ruler of Sharjah, for his generous patronage of the sporting event.
