Shannen Doherty said Monday that Alyssa Milano and her family caused “a strange rift” between her and Holly Marie Combs on the set of the series Charmed.
Doherty, 52, speaking on his podcast Let’s be clear with her former Charmed co-star Combs, 50, who played Piper Halliwell in all 179 episodes of the series from 1998 to 2006.
Doherty played Prue Halliwell in 67 episodes of the WB series Charmed from 1998 to 2001, leaving after the third of the series’ eight seasons.
Doherty told Milano Combs, 50, “It was really interesting [her] trying to get you away from me,” as she knew Combs before the show, and Combs had stayed with her after her split from ex-husband Bryan Travis Smith.
Doherty said Milano and her mother Lin Milano tried to turn Combs against him during production of the show’s second season.

At the time, both were facing exacerbated problems off-screen: Doherty said her late John Thomas Doherty (who died in 2010 aged 66) was “in and out of hospital non-stop”.
Combs had to undergo surgery on her uterus to remove a tumor due to cancer issues, which led to production of the series being suspended.
Doherty said Milano and her mother attempted to restrict her access to Combs after the medical procedure.
“I waited 24 hours after your surgery to get in and it wasn’t even easy for me to get in,” said Doherty, who played Brenda Walsh on Beverly Hills, 90210 from 1990 to 1994. “It was like they told me I couldn’t even get in.”

Doherty said she was upset by the storyline, which, she added, “caused a strange rift between the two of us that continued into season two.”

Combs said growing up in adverse circumstances drew her to Milano’s family at the time.

“I don’t want to work with people who complain about their job and say they hate it or whatever.”
Rose McGowan later appeared on the show in later seasons and stated in her 2018 book Brave: “She wasn’t going to play the role of Shannen, but she was still someone new for fans to play with. Bond… I knew that she had little chance of succeeding here.
