According to The Hollywood Reporter website, Tarantino has completed a script called The Movie Critic, and filming should begin in the second half of the year.
Media speculation is that The Movie Critic is set in 1970s Los Angeles and is about Pauline Kael, a film critic, writer and essayist “known for her combative arguments with editors as well as filmmakers,” according to The Hollywood Reporter .
The Indiewire server adds that Tarantino is a great admirer of Pauline Kael, the woman who stood at the birth of the so-called New Hollywood, the era between the 1960s and 1980s when the film industry was dominated by original directors from Woody Allen to Ridley Scott.
Tarantino shot nine films, The Hollywood Reporter notes that the director would like to end his career with the tenth film. “I would like to stop in time. Directors don’t get better with age. The worst films in their filmography are usually the last four. I’m obsessed with my filmography, one bad movie after**** three good ones. I don’t want that bad, dated comedy in my filmography, that kind of movie where people say — Oh, he thinks we’re still 20 years behind. When directors start to get old, it’s not nice,” The Hollywood Reporter quoted Tarantino as saying in a 2012 Playboy interview.
Although he may not make another film, Tarantino is not averse to creating in other formats. In 2021, for example, he published his first novel Once Upon a Time in Hollywood.
