Severe Flooding Causes Eurostar Cancellations and Chaos at Brussels South Station

The flooding occurs in a tunnel near Ebbsfleet International railway station in Kent. That station is located approximately 40 kilometers from the center of London. The United Kingdom has been hit by severe weather for several days. In the south of England and Wales, code yellow applies for rain and wind, in the north of England and Scotland, code yellow applies for rain and snow. The British Weather Service warns of flooding and traffic disruptions.

The severe weather is caused by storm Gerrit, which has been gripping Great Britain since Wednesday. The north of England and Scotland in particular had a hard time. About 100 houses were damaged in Manchester. Wind speeds of up to 136 kilometers per hour were measured in Scotland.

The storm has already claimed several lives. Three men died on Thursday after their car ended up in a river in the north of England. Shortly after the crash, two other cars became stuck in the river, which had overflowed its banks; its occupants were able to be brought to safety.
