Several people were stabbed Saturday evening in a park in Reading, in the west of London, and transported to the hospital, indicated the police of the British capital, specifying “to have arrested a man on the spot”.
“A number of people were injured and taken to the hospital,” local police added in a statement.
Police and rescue workers responded after being called in the early evening for an incident in which several people were stabbed in Forbury Gardens at around 7 p.m. local time (6 p.m. GMT), police said.
A security perimeter was set up on the scene, the police calling on the public to “avoid the area”.
Reacting to this incident, deemed “serious” by the police, the British Minister of the Interior, Priti Patel, said that she was “deeply concerned” on Twitter.
The British capital was the scene of several knife attacks recently. Last February, London police shot dead a man who had stabbed several people south of the city, saying they were treating the case as “a terrorist act”.
A similar attack took place in London on November 29. Police were alerted to a stabbing attack at London Bridge. The attacker, a 28-year-old Briton, was killed on the spot by the police after stabbing two young students to death and wounding three others.
