Police in the Netherlands have shot and wounded at least two people after riots broke out in Rotterdam during a corona demonstration in Rotterdam on Friday night.
– There are wounded in connection with shots being fired, it was said in a statement from the police in Rotterdam late Friday night.
The police have not stated how many were hit by warning shots, but the broadcaster NOS later reported that it was about two people. A water cannon was also used against the protesters.
Several hundred people took part in the demonstration, which was aimed at a partial coronation shutdown that will last for three weeks.
Shot with fireworks
According to the police, the demonstration turned into riots, where protesters set things on fire in several places, fired fireworks at police and threw objects at police and firefighters.
– Freedom, shouted the protesters, who, among other things, set fire to several electric scooters.
Night to Saturday, the situation was calmer, but there was smoke from a burnt out police car, and dozens of bicycles were left, destroyed, on the spot.
