Seventeen years in Žilina cannot be forgotten

The Žilina players last won out of Dunajská Streda six years ago! It was written on 15 October 2016, when the “Shoshonians” triumphed over DAC 6: 0 in Senec and the current leader of the Gialloblù team, Miroslav Káčer, scored the first goal in the 11th minute. When Žitné ostrov’s team moved to the MOL arena, the yellow-and-greens never defeated Dunajská Streda on their pitch and played eleven games (0-3-8).

Therefore, Miroslav Káčer never won with the Žilina shirt on the DAC lawn and the MŠK players failed in southern Slovakia even after his departure in the summer of 2020 for Viktoria Plzeň. The experienced 26-year-old midfielder moved to Dunajská Streda two years later and on Sunday in the MOL arena in the 13th round match, he will struggle to extend the streak he had tried to stop in the past. This is what we talked about with him.

You played against Žilina already in the 2nd round of the season on their field and contributed to the draw 1: 1. You are now waiting for a trial on your home ground. Do you still catch matches with MŠK in particular?

“I’ve lived in Žilina for about seventeen years, you can’t forget that. The matches with Žilina are still special for me and probably always will be.”

How about the fact that Žilina has never won in the MOL arena?

“That’s the way it is. Even when I was working in Žilina, we were still trying to break this statistic. Unfortunately, it never worked for us. I think even now the trends will not change. I will be very happy when we can.”

Why was it difficult for you to achieve good results in Dunajská Streda with Žilina colors?

“They have always been open games with many chances, but we have failed in efficiency. This was our biggest problem. Of course, at Dunajská Streda it was never easy, also because the great fans pushed their team to success. Thanks to the emotions from the stands, the DAC players of the time were able to break balanced battles in their favor. ”

Today you have these people behind you. What do you say?

“It’s great. Now we’re also going home after more than a month. I think many spectators will come to support us. For us it’s extremely important.”

You haven’t played at home in over a month because the turf has been replaced. You haven’t trained on the new carpet yet. Did you at least walk on it?

“It hasn’t passed, I just grabbed it … They didn’t let me do more. We’ll see what the pitch will be like during the match.”

How did it appear to you?

“Great. The club has made a great investment, we have a high pitch. I see it positively and I believe we will succeed.”

Will Žilina’s curse also last in the new playground?

“I really hope so. Today I am a Dunajská Streda player and I want to do my best for the DAC. I believe in our victory.”

Do you make fun of your former teammates or Žilina’s acquaintances before the match?

“Not much. Žilina’s squad has changed and personally I don’t know many guys from MŠK. Rather, we talked about the match in our cabin with the intention that if we manage it, some sort of reward will arrive in the locker room.”

In addition to you, two other former Žilina players are also active in the DAC: goalkeeper Samuel Petráš and midfielder Enis Fazlagič. Are you the one shaking the whole team?

“Not so … Every player on our team is aware of the club they play for. There is no need to talk about extra motivation. The fans here are demanding and everyone in the DAC wants us to move into at least the top three. I think we are aware of this and that we can manage the game. ”

What kind of duel do you expect and what do you think the opponent will do in Dunajská Streda?

“Žilina has changed the style of play a bit compared to the past. Today the MŠK team tries to present themselves with a more direct kick, many of their actions take place in the middle of the pitch. I think we are well prepared for that. The coaches they gave us tactical indications. I expect a quick and open football “.

From your point of view, who is the most dangerous player in Žilina today?

“The strength of the Žilina people lies in their fast wings. Dávid Ďuriš and Adrián Kaprálik are dangerous, but our opponent also has quality in midfield. I think the MŠK’s offensive outweighs the defensive.”

“Even when I was working in Žilina, we were still trying to break this statistic. Unfortunately, it never worked for us. I believe that even now the trends will not change.

Last weekend you won in Poprad against Liptovský Mikuláš (1: 0), which was your first away win this year. Was it a big push for Dunajskred’s team ahead of Sunday’s round?

“Definitely yes, for us it was a positive impulse. We played against a weaker opponent on paper, but we had to beat our away record.”

And how encouraged you to have completed your first international match in September, even though you didn’t get a chance directly in the match?

I spoke to the national team manager and he told me that it all depends on me. Participating in the national team is something I want to relive. I will work hard to find myself in the next nomination “.

What experiences did you have at the camp?

Francesco Calzona is a foreign coach who offered us a different vision of football and tried to move us from a tactical point of view. It was a valuable experience for me and another boost to my career. I already knew most of the guys on the national team, there were no surprises from them. ”
