The accident happened at the University of El Alto last Tuesday. On the fourth floor, a horde of students had gathered in front of a lecture hall.
Video footage shows the crowd of students packed together in the building of the public university of El Alto when the railing of the balcony suddenly collapses.
It is so busy that people are pushing and pulling. A young woman pushes another just before the railing collapses. The student can still cling to one of her fellow students. The woman will be questioned as part of the investigation, said Jhonny Aguilera Montecinos of the Bolivian police.
“We deplore the tragedy that took place at El Alto Public University (UPEA), where several people were killed and injured,” Bolivian President Luis Arce wrote on Twitter. “Our deepest condolences to the people of El Alto and to the families affected. “
Bolivia’s interior minister, Eduardo del Castillo, is investigating the tragic accident.
