Seven new electric cars on the way

The Mustang Mach-E electric car is a great success in Norway. It has given Ford a real sales comeback here at home, while also making it strong in several other markets.

As with many other car manufacturers, a lot is about electrification at Ford. Now they have just eased the veil a bit on what will happen in the next few years. And it’s not a small thing. Before the end of 2024, they will launch as many as seven new all-electric passenger and commercial vehicle models for the European market.

It includes, among other things, an all-electric Ford Puma and a five-seater medium-sized crossover with an electric range of 500 kilometers. In addition, they are also introducing a new and sporty electric crossover.

Unveiled this year

It is no coincidence that Ford is investing heavily in SUVs and crossovers. This type of car accounted for as much as 58 per cent of total passenger car sales in Europe in 2021. This was an increase of almost 20 percentage points, compared with the previous year.

The two crossovers are to be manufactured in Germany. The new five-seater, medium-sized crossover will be unveiled later this year. In 2023, it will be put into production. So it is ready for a more sporty model already the following year.

This is how Ford teases some of the models that are on the way. The car on the far left looks very much like an electric version of today’s Puma.

Electric Puma from 2024

Electric car production at the factory in Cologne will be increased to 1.2 million cars over a six-year period. The investments in the production of the new electric cars in Cologne are expected to be $ 2 billion, or around NOK 18 billion.

This also includes investments in a new factory for the installation of batteries, which is scheduled to open in 2024.

In addition, Ford’s best-selling passenger car in Europe, the compact Puma crossover, will be available in a fully electric version from 2024. This model will be produced in Craiova, Romania. With this, Ford will help to increase the number of electric cars produced in Europe sharply.

Large manufacturer of batteries

In addition to passenger cars, they will also invest heavily in electric vans. Transit Custom comes as an electric car from 2023. Then follows the new Transit Courier as an all-electric variant in 2024.

These will also be available in electric passenger car versions, such as the Tourneo Custom and Tourneo Courier multi-purpose vehicles.

Ford also announced today that it is working on a new industry-leading joint venture company in Turkey. According to the plan, this will be one of the largest factories for the production of batteries for electric cars in all of Europe.
