Serving a 15-year prison sentence, missing his family should flee to Ho Chi Minh City

On March 17, the People’s Court of Ham Tan district (Binh Thuan) in collaboration with Thu Duc Detention Station, the Ministry of Public Security (Z30D, Tan Duc commune, Ham Tan district) opened a mobile trial at the hall of Z30D Detention Center and sentenced the offender. Dinh Viet Dung (58 years old) 24 months in prison for escaping from custody.

According to the indictment, Dinh Viet Dung is serving a 15-year prison sentence for fraud and appropriation of property at Camp 3, Z30D Detention Center. During visits to foster, Dung’s children all told about the difficult situation at home, so Dung intended to run away to visit his family.

Around 6:45 am on November 10, 2022, when he went to work to grow noodles with 3 other groups of prisoners in the area adjacent to Be Mountain, about 3 km away from Camp 3, he took advantage of the working terrain near the bushes and trees. At the opening of the guards and security officers, Dung waded across the stream and escaped.

The news of the escaped prisoner was alerted. At noon of the same day, Colonel Le Ba Thuy, Superintendent of Thu Duc Prison, issued a wanted decision for Dung (temporary residence in Binh Chanh district, Ho Chi Minh City) for escaping from detention across the country.

Z30D Prison has mobilized hundreds of policemen to coordinate with the police of Binh Thuan, Ba Ria – Vung Tau and Dong Nai provinces to search for inmate Dung.

Through extracting cameras and scouting sources, the arresting force said that Dung had not appeared in residential areas but still hid in the mountainous area, so the area should be caught.

However, due to the complex mountainous terrain; bordering with nine communes and towns in three provinces of Dong Nai, Binh Thuan and Ba Ria – Vung Tau, so the tracing is difficult.

In the process of escaping in the forest, inmate Dung picked forest fruits, drank water from rivers and streams to live, and then waited for the night to come out and move to Ho Chi Minh City.

At about 8:00 a.m. on November 24, 2022, when inmate Dung was drinking coffee on Le Dinh Tham Street in Tan Quy Ward, Tan Phu District, Ho Chi Minh City, he was arrested by officers of Thu Duc Prison. wanted after 14 days on the run.
