Sernapesca reported massive salmon leak in the Reloncaví Sound

The National Fisheries and Aquaculture Service (Sernapesca) reported a escape of salmon from the farming center of the Blumar company, located in the Seno de Reloncaví, Los Lagos Region.

The event, which occurred last Saturday night, involved the sinking of 16 cages out of a total of 18. The enclosure supports 875,144 fish -of the species atlantic salmon– with an average weight of 3.8 kilos.

Because of this, the company activated the contingency plans and the recovery of the structures, but due to the adverse climatic conditions in the area, they have not been able to establish the exact figures for both specimen escapes and mortality.

“We have been able to verify that salmon escaped in an amount not yet specified, since all the infrastructures were seriously damaged by climatic conditions. We will continue to carry out all necessary inspections and we are carrying out the investigation into the causes of this incident, “explained the Los Lagos Regional Director, Eduardo Aguilera.

The company pointed out that the situation was due to the strong mountain wind that hit the area in recent days, causing the cages to fall, although it is the exact cause It has to be a matter of investigation.
