The fourteen-year-old girl who was found dead in the roadside along the Zeedijk between Monnickendam and Marken on the night from Friday to Saturday was most likely killed in a traffic accident, police said. That suspicion already existed and is confirmed after an investigation into the serious injury of the teenager.
The girl from the North Holland village of Marken was reported missing at night around 1 a.m., after which the police started a search and found the victim around 4 a.m. She was probably walking since no other vehicle parts were found in her area.
What exactly happened is not yet clear. The police are calling on the concerned driver who allegedly drove on to report. It is also not known why the girl walked along the Zeedijk. The police hope that witnesses can tell what happened between 1:00 am and 4:00 am.
The police suspected, among other things because of skid marks on the road, that the girl had been hit. In the weekend, a total of four cars with damage were seized for investigation. All these vehicles were found in Marken. The owners have not been arrested.
