Preparations for the opening ceremony of the Youth Olympic Games turned into drama. Tuesday, around 5:30 p.m., a 35-year-old skater artist fell five meters into the ice rink at the Vaudoise Aréna in Malley. Seriously injured, she was transported to the CHUV. Her life is in danger. The public prosecutor opened a criminal investigation.
During her act, the skater of Russian nationality and domiciled in Germany was towed in elevation by a metal ring system connected by a cable to a motor fixed to the ceiling of the Vaudoise Arena. For some reason the investigation will have to determine, she suddenly lost her balance and fell on the ice, police said in a statement.
The investigations are carried out by gendarmes from the Lausanne region, in collaboration with mountain specialist gendarmes and investigators from the Vaudois police forensic police brigade. They must make it possible to establish the causes, the circumstances and the possible responsibilities in this accident.
This event required the engagement of several gendarmerie patrols, West Lausanne police, an ambulance, the SMUR with a doctor and inspectors from the Vaud security police.
