Sepang Extends Contract After Mandalika MotoGP Excitement

MotoGP Malaysia at the Sepang Circuit is certain to continue until 2024 according to the agreement and potentially another two years.

The MotoGP commercial rights holder also announced a new partnership with Petronas which will be the main sponsor of the race in the Neighboring States.

“We are very pleased to confirm that the Malaysian Grand Prix will remain on the calendar until at least 2024. Malaysia is a vital market for MotoGP and it is a joy to be able to race at Sepang and witness the incredible passion of the fans filling the stands,” said Dorna CEO Carmelo. Ezpeleta, as quoted in the official release.

“After returning to Malaysia for pre-season testing, we couldn’t be more excited to be back and racing. We are all looking forward to the Malaysian Grand Prix and seeing our fans in Malaysia for another season,” continued Ezepeleta.

Dorna has also discussed cooperation opportunities with Sepang and Petronas for the MotoGP race until 2026.

Sepang Circuit CEO, Azhan Shafriman Hanif, and Petronas Communications Strategy Group Senior General Manager, Datin Anita Azrina Abdul Aziz, also expressed their happiness with the new collaboration with Dorna.

The Malaysian MotoGP has been going on since 1991 and has been continuously held until last year. Malaysia has moved venues three times, namely at the Shah Alam Circuit, Johor Circuit and Sepang Circuit. Especially in Sepang, the MotoGP race has been going on since 1999.


The Malaysian MotoGP race is one of the closing series in addition to Japan and Australia, and is now added to Thailand, before ending in Valencia.
