7th out of 48 major world cities assessed

[헤럴드경제=배두헌 기자] Seoul was ranked 7th among the world’s major cities in the competitiveness ranking of cities assessed by the Mori Memorial Foundation Urban Strategy Research Center, a private Japanese organization, up one notch from the previous year.
According to the “2022 Global Cities Comprehensive Power Ranking (GPCI)” recently released by the Mori Memorial Foundation’s Urban Strategy Institute on the 8th, Seoul took the 7th highest place among the world’s 48 major cities evaluated last year.
After ranking 13th in the first evaluation in 2008, Seoul rose to 6th in 2017, but its competitiveness declined after 2018, and it ranked 8th for two consecutive years in 2020 and 2021.
The Mori Memorial Foundation’s Urban Strategy Research Center assessed the city’s competitiveness in six categories: economy, research and development, culture and exchange, housing, environment, transportation and accessibility.
Seoul ranked 14th in economics, 6th in research and development, 15th in culture and exchange, 35th in residency, 14th in environment, and 16th in transportation and access.
Overall, 1st place was London, England, 2nd place was New York, USA, and 3rd place was occupied by Tokyo, Japan.
Spots 4 through 6 were Paris, France, Singapore and Amsterdam, The Netherlands, and spots 8 through 10 were filled by Berlin, Germany, Melbourne, Australia and Shanghai, China.
