A group of 25 older adults filed a guardianship action against the Government for the alleged discrimination against them, regarding the measures decreed in the midst of the coronavirus crisis.

The guardianship sought to nullify resolutions 464 and 844 of 2020 of the Ministry of Health and decrees 749 and 847 of 2020.

Political figures such as Humberto de la Calle and Clara López appear on the list of names of those who filed the guardianship.

President Iván Duque specified that the measures were not being taken in order to discriminate, but to protect them because they are a population more vulnerable to the covid-19 virus.

“I know that some people have felt the violation of their rights and have resorted to the action of guardianship to seek that this be considered discrimination,” said Duque.

According to the plaintiffs, quarantine measures for those over 70 violate the rights to equality by not allowing them to resume their activities.
