Selma (62) killed by her own dog

It was Sunday evening that Selma Kregere (62) stayed attacked, bitten and killed by his own amstaff dog in Robertsfors northeast of Umeå.

The woman’s name was Sarmite Kregere, but among friends and family she was called Selma.

Just a few hours earlier, Selma had spoken on the phone with her daughter, Guna Grina. The Swedish newspaper writes it L’Espresso.

I have devastating news

The plan was for Guna to go home to his mother the next day to change his car’s winter tires. But that’s never been the case.

Instead, Guna received a cruel message: Selma had been bitten and killed by her own dog, Papi. The dog is of the Amstaff breed, banned in Norway since 2004. In Sweden it is still legal to have the breed.

The 62-year-old was visited by a man this evening. As the man was about to lie down on the sofa, the dog is said to have attacked.

The man was taken to hospital by helicopter with bite wounds.

– A nightmare

Selma is said to have taken the dog out to calm him down, Expressen writes. There she herself was attacked – and died of her injuries.

– Seems like a nightmare from which I can’t wake up. It is so empty. My brothers and I have lost our mother, our best friend, in the most tragic way, her daughter tells the Swedish newspaper.

Her daughter describes her as a friendly and helpful person, who loved everyone and who always stood up for others. She says that her mother was very much loved.

Selma was a qualified agricultural specialist, but was disabled due to an occupational injury. Guna says the animals helped her mother with her loneliness after her partner died a few years ago.

– But he shouldn’t have had this dog. I thought something was going to happen – and now it has, she says.

Reported to the police

It is not the first time that Papi attacks a human being. Two years ago, Guna’s two-year-old daughter was bitten in the leg.

The incident was reported to police and Selma is said to have told the county council that she got rid of the dog.

According to Guna, the incident was a sensitive topic within the family. He claims the 62-year-old had plans to find another home for Papi and doesn’t know how the dog ended up with his mother.

– We all knew he had to get rid of the dog. But he thought so well of everyone, people and animals. He always wanted to save everyone. She was probably trying to save the dog. Eventually she saved another person’s life, but she died herself, she tells the newspaper.
