Second wolf killed, confirms Jan Loos from Welkom Wolf

On the track between Meeuwen and Opglabbeek in the province of Limburg, a second wolf was killed on Monday morning. This confirms Jan Loos of the vzw Welkom Wolf.

The people of the Natuurhulpcentrum were called on Monday morning to pick up the cadaver, writes The Importance of Limburg. It is becoming clear once again that the major traffic axes for these large predators are life-threatening and that work must be done on defragmentation, Loos emphasizes.

Whether the victim is one of Noëlla and August’s cubs will have to be determined from DNA testing. But because the accident happened in wolf area, it can be assumed. A week and a half ago, a cub belonging to Noëlla and August was also hit on the north-south connection in Eksel.

The cubs, referred to as the ‘Bosland Daltons’ by the Flemish Minister of the Environment, Zuhal Demir (N-VA), are the first wild wolves to be born in Flanders in more than a century. That’s because the wolf was extinct in the wild here for so long.
