Second round of municipal elections in Burgundy Franche-Comté: where are the hot spots?

In Burgundy, little or no suspense for the outgoing mayors of Dijon, Beaune and Sens, François Rebsamen (PS) Alain Suguenot (LR) and Marie-Louise Fort (LR) who veered onto the first round buoy with a large lead.

The situation is much more tense for the mayor of Auxerre, Guy Ferez, yet supported by the PS and LREM, ahead of 331 votes by the head of the LR list Crescent Marault , helped by the absence, at the last moment, of an RN candidate. A quadrangular is possible in Auxerre with two environmental lists who hold the outcome of the ballot in their hands.

Another outgoing mayor in danger, with a risk of loss for the majority at Autun, with the Modem Vincent Chauvet, preceded by 58 votes by the departmental adviser on the right Frédéric Brochot, which could also benefit from the votes of another list on the right. The mayor and his opponent worked a lot and showed themselves a lot during the health crisis: who will benefit from it?

AT Montceau, the outgoing right Marie-Claude Jarrot has largely taken the lead, but the two lists on the left, if they get along, weigh more heavily than it. Will the divided heirs of former mayor Didier Mathus negotiate? This is the key to Montceau.

Finally in the Nièvre, the left is about to take over the old historic stronghold of the PC of Varennes-Vauzelles, where the outgoing centrist mayor Isabelle Bonnicel, who had already lost her majority on the municipal council, is largely preceded by the PCF candidate Olivier Sicot. A quadrangular is possible in Varennes-Vauzelles, with many combinations …

Belfort, Besançon, Lons …

In Franche-Comté, three “prefecture towns” out of 4 still remain to be filled: Besançon, Belfort and Lons-le-Saunier. Alain Chrétien, Act the constructive Right, was re-elected to Vesoul, prefecture city of Haute-Saône, with 55% of the votes.
AT Belfort, Damien Meslot, the LR mayor who is representing himself, misses his re-election in the first round by… 169 votes! He won 48% of the vote. The second is Mathilde Nassar which leads an EELV and France Insoumise list with 15% of the votes. Two other lists can be maintained, those of Samia Jaber, KVD, and Marie-José Fleury, various Center. One can merge: that of Maude Clavequin, 7%, socialist with the support of LREM. Four candidates vying for the second round but little suspense: Damien Meslot should be elected mayor of Belfort for a new term.

AT Besancon, the outgoing mayor, Jean-Louis Fousseret, ex-PS and LREM, does not stand for re-election. He supported his former collaborator, Alexandra Cordier who won only 4% of the vote. Anne Vignot, EELV candidate who leads a list on the left is given a favorite: she came out on top with 31%. In second position, Ludovic Fagaut, LR with 24% of the votes, followed by the deputy LREM Eric Alauzet, 18%. Two other lists could theoretically merge: Claire Arnoux, LFI, 8%, and Jacques Ricciardetti, National Gathering, 7%. Theoretically but not politically…
Besançon could become one of the few cities with more than 100,000 inhabitants managed by a female environmentalist

AT Lons-le-Saunier, the succession of Jacques Pélissard, mayor of the right since 1989, aroused a lot of appetite. The second round could give rise to a triangular. Christophe Bois, Agir, with the support of LREM, totals 36% of the votes. The candidate of the united left, Jean-Yves Ravier, collects 30%. The list on the right led by a former assistant to Jacques Pélissard, John Huet, realizes 21%. With its 7% of the vote, Christophe Perny, Divers Gauche, is in a position to merge with one of the qualified lists. The campaign between 2 rounds will be interesting to follow to know who merges with whom …

In the small towns of Franche-Comté

In the other towns of Franche-Comté, in the second round, make way for triangulars… at least!
In the Territoire de Belfort, Eric Koeberlé, mayor LR out of Bavilliers, 43%, faces two lists: Gérald Loridat KVD and Chantal Bueb 33 and 24% respectively on March 15.

In Haute-Saône, also triangular in the only city of more than 3500 inhabitants which still remains to be provided: Hericourt. The outgoing mayor, Divers Gauche Fernand Burkhalter is in favorable ballot with its 47% facing Gilles Lazar, PCF, 33% and Patrick Adam, DVD, 11%.

In the Jura, Salins-les-Bains, the 3 lists present in the first round qualified. Gilles Beder, outgoing mayor Various Right is, perhaps, in difficulty: he came second, with 35%, behind Michel Cêtre 43%. Also possible in the second round: the Divers Gauche Michel Bugada which totals 21%.
AT Saint-Claude, the outgoing mayor Various Right Jean-Louis Millet, veered ahead but very little: 37.76% ahead of the socialist Frédéric Poncet 36.33%. The former mayor of the city, Francis Lahaut, PCF, finished 3rd with 26% of the votes.

In Doubs, there are still vacancies: Valentigney and Mandeure.
AT Valentigney, Philippe Gauthier, outgoing mayor LR, leads with 36% of the vote, followed closely by Claude-Françoise Saumier, Miscellaneous Left, 33%. Qualified too François Sahler, Various Center, 26%.

And, case study: Mandeure and its 5 lists from the first round still in the race for the second round!
The outgoing mayor, Jean-Pierre Hocquet, DVD, gets 33%, and Patrick Alin, KVD, 27%. The 3 other qualified are far behind: Sandra ramalho, DVD, 14%, Julien Ceccarelli, DVD, 13% and Stéphane Podgora, KVD, 11%.

Auxonne, Cluny, Charnay, Plombières …

In the smaller towns in Burgundy, three complicated successions at Auxonne (Côte d’Or), Chagny and Charnay (Sâone and Loire). The right could lose Auxonne, where the former head of the PS list of 2014 Jean-François Coiquil now supported by Lrem leads the peloton of a triangular.
In Chagny, the heiress of Michel Picard Estelle Bernard-Brunaud does not have a comfortable lead, finally Charnay les Macon does not depart from his habit of a “particular” political life with the 5 lists of the first round qualified in the second round and a pole position for the regional adviser UDI Christine Robin.
AT Cluny, the left could take the city back from the mayor DVD Henri Bonniau, ahead of 10 points by Marie Fauvet in a quadrangular.
Finally, two hot spots in cities with less than 3,500 inhabitants. In the Yonne, at Saint-Julien du Sault, the mayor Guy bourras stood out with its anti-pesticide orders in an agricultural commune. He is preceded by 29 votes by his opposition.
And at Plombières-les-Dijon, the left hopes to recover its former stronghold! The right mayor Monique Bayard, after a complicated mandate during which she lost part of her majority, does not precede the young departmental councilor on the left Céline Maglica only 5 votes, with the reserve of 96 votes from the other candidate on the left Murat Bayam. Plombières will therefore be particularly observed for this second round. –
