Hospitalized for a few days, Liege Jean Brankart, originally from Momalle, left this Thursday at the age of 90 when he was suffering from stomach cancer. He marked the history of Belgian cycling by finishing second in the Tour de France of 1955, during which he won two stages.
Three years later, he finished on the same step of the podium in the Tour of Italy and won the best climber jersey. Her professional career lasted around eight years (1953-1960) and was terminated at the age of 30 due to health problems. For the rest of his life he continued to follow the races and the results very closely.
