Sebastian Vettel “I spoke to Niki Lauda about moving to Mercedes F1″[F1-Gate.com]

Sebastian Vettel has revealed that he and Niki Lauda discussed a move to Mercedes F1 when he was at Ferrari but ultimately decided to stay at Ferrari.

Despite being the second most successful German driver in F1, Sebastian Vettel has only driven for a German team with BMW Sauber and in only one Grand Prix.

A move to Mercedes F1 always seemed like the perfect match, but Sebastian Vettel left Red Bull for Ferrari and then Aston Martin. It was the last team of his career.

Sebastian Vettel didn’t join Mercedes F1 not because he wasn’t interested but because he was actually talking to the late Niki Lauda who convinced Mercedes F1 non-executive director Lewis Hamilton to join him.

“I spoke to Niki about joining halfway through my time at Ferrari,” revealed Sebastian Vettel on the Beyond the Grid podcast.

“It would have been great if that had happened. I don’t know if they wanted both of us in the team because Lewis was their number one in a way.”

“But I was busy with Ferrari, so I wasn’t really interested at the time. It was my dream to be successful at Ferrari.

As Sebastian Vettel has said, moving to Mercedes F1 would have meant sharing the garage with former great rival Lewis Hamilton. F1 fans will never know if he created a friendly rivalry or went the way of Nico Roberg.

“I think it would have been a big challenge if that had happened,” said Sebastian Vettel of becoming Lewis Hamilton’s teammate.

“And I think I liked it, but I didn’t want to.”

“As I said, my goal was to win with Ferrari and that was my goal. I didn’t want to change teams and win with Mercedes.”

“What I really loved was not just winning, but winning with Ferrari. It was a great goal.”

“It didn’t happen, and that’s fine, but I think I enjoyed racing with Lewis. We’re doing really well.”

“I think we had a stage at the 2017 Baku Grand Prix, but today you could call it a misunderstanding.”

Sebastian Vettel angered by safety car introduction at F1 2017 Azerbaijan GP and lined up side by side with Lewis Hamilton and ate a body.

“It was one of those moments where things didn’t go right and I was upset. Maybe the emotional side dominated too much,” said Vettel.

“But actually, I think that moment was an important moment because it could have made us more distant or closer.”

“So I reflected and thought about what happened. Maybe what I felt at the time wasn’t right. It wasn’t right. I wanted to show him and that’s what I wanted to say. kind of communication.”

“But it also turned out to be the wrong way. It wasn’t the right way, it wasn’t sporty, it wasn’t right. “.
