A very attractive little station wagon with an extended mechanical range.
At a time when the all-powerful SUV tends to make the station wagon disappear, the new Leon Sportstourer could not do things by halves. So it had to be something other than a stylish station wagon, and that’s what it is.
Now 4.62 meters long, it gains 9.3 cm on its predecessor, with what that implies inside. Rear passengers are entitled to an additional 5 cm for their legs, which is far from negligible. As for the trunk, it now has a volume of 620 liters under the shelf, one of the most generous in its category. Fold down the seat, and you will get 1,750 liters squarely!
“Cleaned” console
If the new Leon station wagon is more practical than ever, it is not only a question of dimensions, since technology also contributes. The DSG auto gearbox versions now incorporate “shift-bywire” technology, which eliminates any physical connection between the gearbox and its control lever. Everything goes through electronic signals, which allows clean console and free the passenger compartment from these mechanical connections, to provide more space and new storage spaces.
