Search team dead surfer Scheveningen may find track, police help | NOW

The police in the The Hague region have been helping in the search for the missing 23-year-old surfer from Delft since Sunday afternoon. Search and Rescue-Netherlands (SAR) teams have been searching since the morning and have discovered “something”.

A spokesperson does not dare to confirm to NU.nl that the police are also on the track of the surfer’s body. “Something has been found, but it could also be something completely different,” she remains cautious.

SAR went out on a Sunday morning at the beach of Scheveningen. The search has expanded during the day to five different locations along the North Sea coast, from Hoek van Holland to Katwijk and IJmuiden.

Because of the strong wind, the SAR teams cannot get on the water. The group therefore uses search dogs and horses, among other things. The search dogs are trained to recognize corpse air.

In total, five water sportsmen were killed

SAR was at sea with a sonar boat on Friday, but that search was unsuccessful. The surfer’s body has been searched for since Monday last Monday. He was seen at sea a day later, but drifted away before the body could be recovered.

Last Monday, besides the 23-year-old man from Delft, four other water sports enthusiasts died in the sea at Scheveningen. The bodies of this foursome have now been recovered. One person survived the drama and is back home after hospitalization.
