He worked as an associate professor and later professor at the Academy of Fine Arts (AVU) in Prague, later co-founded the Department of Fine Arts with a multimedia program at the Faculty of Education, University of Ostrava. In 1961, he received the main prize of the Biennale de la Jeunesse in Paris for his sculpture Welder.

Hanzík portrayed portraits of artists, scientists, composers, architects, writers and other important personalities. These include, for example, Božena Němcová, Karel Hynek Mácha, Bedřich Smetana, Jaroslav Seifert, Alfons Mucha, Karel Hašler and many others.

Many of the portrayed personalities sat with the model directly in Hanzík’s studio in Nerudova Street – for example, photographer Josef Sudek, actors Rudolf Hrušínský and Josef Kemr or architect Jaroslav Fragner. For Litvínov, Hanzík created a life-size statue of hockey player and coach Ivan Hlinka, who died in a car accident.

In 1999, the London Society of Portrait Sculptures awarded Hanzík the Jean Masson Davidson Medal for his portrait of the writer Bohumil Hrabal.

His works are represented not only in galleries, but also in the National Theater in Prague, in the rotunda on Říp, in the Karolinum in Prague or in the seat of parliament. In his native Most, he has a number of realizations in free space. He was a member of the Association of Fine Artists Mánes.
