Scientists have found out the cause of brain problems in people who have had coronavirus, writes Leta.ru. Journalists of the publication refer to experts from the Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center in New York.
American researchers studied the cerebrospinal fluid of 18 cancer patients diagnosed with neurological dysfunction after being infected with COVID-19. The ailment is accompanied by symptoms such as fatigue, memory loss, confusion, and other abnormalities.
“We found the patients had inflammation and high levels of cytokines in the cerebrospinal fluid, which explained their symptoms. This causes the symptoms of encephalopathy – brain damage – observed in patients, ”the researchers said.
Thus, the experts concluded that the flow of such chemicals in the immune system enters the brain.
