scientists have found an effective cure for hangovers

In a very serious study published this Tuesday, August 18, Finnish researchers claim to have found a remedy that would reduce the harmful effects of an evening a little too watered.

To avoid a hangover or at least lessen its effects, there are more or less known ways like drinking water to avoid alcohol-related dehydration, getting fresh air and playing sports, or eating certain foods like bananas or ginger. But these tips are unfortunately not always effective.

A funny experience

To find an answer to this problem which has always affected the whole world, Finnish scientists have carried out a strange experiment. They shared the results of it in the scientific journal Alcohol and Alcoholism from the University of Oxford.

They asked 19 healthy volunteers, recruited through advertisements, to consume an alcohol dose of 1.5 g / kg for three hours. Of course, they were under the control of doctors. Then, they gave the guinea pigs either placebos or tablets that contained a dose of cysteine, an amino acid.

The results are final. The next morning, the volunteers described how they felt and those who received the cysteine tablet had little or no symptoms. Researchers claim that “Cysteine prevents or alleviates hangovers, nausea, headaches, stress and anxiety”.

Towards a miracle cure?

The scientists who carried out the experiment are surprised by the effectiveness of cysteine and claim that this amino acid has unique properties. It could be marketed as an anti-hangover treatment and could also help fight alcoholism.

“Cysteine would reduce the need to drink the next day with no or few hangover symptoms: nausea, headaches, stress and anxiety. Overall, these effects of cysteine are unique and appear to have a future in preventing or relieving these harmful symptoms. as well as in reducing the risk of alcohol dependence. “

Unfortunately, you will have to wait a little longer before seeing this remedy on the shelves of your pharmacy. Particularly because the experiment was carried out on a very small group of participants. Besides, some guinea pigs were not even at the end of the experiment. Some were drunk too quickly and could not drink the prescribed dose of alcohol and others, more accustomed to alcohol, felt no effect even after eight drinks …
