Scientific explanation for the dead can live again

Jakarta

The community was shocked by the incident of a 12 year old girl in Probolinggo died then came to life again and died again. This event has a scientific explanation.

Incidents in Probolinggo are very rare, but not the first time this has happened. In medical research, it is called Lazarus Phenomenon.

In a search detikINET, Tuesday (18/8/2020) Lazarus Phenomenon was first seriously studied by scientists in 1982 in the medical journal The Lancet in a report entitled Recovery After Discontinued Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation. Name Lazarus Syndrome given by anesthetist Jack Bray Jr. first time in 1993, from the story of the man who was brought back to life by Prophet Isa.

Medically speaking, this is a condition called the Return of Spontaneous Circulation (ROSC). Since then scientists and doctors have collected similar cases from around the world. Smithsonian Magazine once wrote that doctor Vedamurthy Adhiyaman from Glan Clwyd Hospital in North Wales studied 38 cases of Lazarus Phenomenon.

His research was published in the Journal of the Royal Society of Medicine in 2007 entitled The Lazarus Phenomenon. According to Adhiyaman, 65 percent of Lazarus cases ended in death, after having had time to live again. But 35 percent of patients, come back to life and then they can be healthy.

So what is the scientific explanation? There are several scientific theories that have developed because the Lazarus case is very difficult for scientists to research.

First, Dynamic Hyperinflation. All medical reports indicated a factor in CPR or artificial respiration. In this scientific theory, the lungs are thought to be filled with air without enough time to exhale.

The air pressure in the lungs prevents blood from returning to the heart causing cardiac arrest. When CPR is stopped, lung pressure decreases, blood circulates again and causes auto-resuscitation or life again.

Second, hyperkalemia. High potassium content in the blood is thought to cause auto-resuscitation. When doctors give calcium, glucose, insulin, sodium bicarbonate and other drugs to reduce potassium levels, the heart can beat again.

These two scientific explanations are considered the closest to date. Case Lazarus Syndrome admittedly very difficult for scientists to research because the occurrence is very rare, there is still much speculation. Many Lazarus cases go unreported to scientific forums due to patient family privacy concerns.
