The “kicker” now reports: The Royal Blues absolutely need the last seasonal rate of DFL payments from the contracts with the national media partners. Accordingly, it is about 15.892 million euros that are still due to S04 – the payment should have been made by the rights holder on April 10, but has not yet been made. The deadline is now May 2nd, which is expected with fear.
Board member Peter Peters already announced measures on Wednesday that should help the association: In addition to tax deferrals, attempts are being made to “reduce expenses”. One would have “sent employees in short-time work and agreed with the players waiver of salary.”
Over-indebtedness of the club threatens
If payments continued to fail, the club would become over-indebted. If the liquidity problems worsen, short-term financial help from the supervisory board chairman Clemens Tönnies is still possible. But even after the crisis has been overcome, only a spin-off of the professional department can ensure the survival of the club, writes the “kicker”. Tönnies had already said in the “Welt am Sonntag” last week that he was “very worried about Schalke” in the current situation.
As a sign and to support the club’s employees, the S04 professionals had already agreed with the board of directors at the end of March on “a partial waiver of wages and bonuses and an additional percentage suspension of their salaries initially until June 30, 2020”.
