Scavenger hunt instead of cross-country skiing

SV Oberteisendorf sends its cross-country skiers on a scavenger hunt: Because training together in times of Corona is out of the question and the snow conditions do not allow cross-country training everywhere, trainer Michaela Hofmeister and seven other families have come up with special tasks for cross-country skiers – and send them you can do a small course round on eight dates until January 5th. “It was important for us to move the cross-country skiing families and to have fun – and that contactless and on paths that are not overcrowded,” explains Michaela Hofmeister.

She quickly found seven families, each preparing a route of around five kilometers where they lived. Because children at the age of five train as well as young people at the age of 15 in the club, families can hike the laps or the older participants can use them as a jogging circuit. Some families are also out and about with prams or sleds, reports Hofmeister.

Small tasks await the participants on the way – sporting training as well as a bowling game, a forest course or listening exercises. The family who chose the group thought about the tasks. Cross-country skiers receive the map or sketch of the route beforehand via WhatsApp.

Michaela Hofmeister is enthusiastic about the response: “We had signature lists on the first stretch and around 80 people signed up,” she says. And it’s not just the cross-country families who are out and about, but also families who have heard of the event from friends.

Anyone who has completed at least three routes can also take part in a raffle on January 6th. But at the end of each round there is also a reward waiting for the participants: a small treasure chest – in order to open this, the families have to be attentive on the way: for the number combination they have to count stairs or solve puzzles, for example. In addition, there are always photo points along the way – Michaela Hofmeister puts together a small film from the photos of the participants, which she sends to the WhatsApp group.

In this way, not only are cross-country skiers and their families motivated to exercise in nature, the participants also get to know new routes and paths in the entire catchment area of SV Oberteisendorf – and thus discover new opportunities for the summer too. “Some laps can also be used for cycling,” says Michaela Hofmeister. “The families tried very hard and really got involved.”

The trainer is not only happy about the great creativity of the organizers, but also about the feedback from the participants. »I get a lot, a lot of feedback. It’s really nice because you get so much in return. ”And that also in the form of pictures or wishes: On New Year’s Day, the task was to write your wishes on a glass and light a candle in it.

Michaela Hofmeister hopes that joint training will be possible again soon. Until then, if there is enough snow, the families will also be out individually on the cross-country ski trail – or on the course laps. “That’s nice because some families haven’t seen each other since September,” says the SVO trainer. “I’m really happy that it works so well.” Jom
