Savoie hospitals must deprogram non-urgent surgical operations

As of Friday, April 2, 136 coronavirus patients were hospitalized in Savoie, including 26 in intensive care in Chambéry. The situation became tense. To cope, the Regional Health Agency asks the Savoyard establishments to deprogram at least half of the surgical activities.

“There, there is the Easter weekend, so we must still allow time to warn the patients” explains Loïc Mollet, director of the ARS departmental delegation in Savoie, “so it starts next week, for all the surgical activity which is not urgent, of course, for all the health establishments of the department.

This frees up specialized human resources to strengthen the resuscitation services of the Chambéry hospital – Loïc Mollet, director of the ARS in Savoie

The objective is simple, as in the first wave, it is to free up specialized and trained staff to deal with the increase in the number of hospitalized patients, and those in intensive care. The Chambéry hospital will thus increase its reception capacities. Currently, the establishment has 36 beds in its intensive care unit (currently 26 covid patients, and ten for other pathologies). The number of additional beds was not specified. During the first wave in the spring, there were 36 covid patients hospitalized in intensive care at the Chambéry hospital, and even a peak at 48 patients during the second wave in the fall – which had also led to 23 medical evacuations -.

In Haute-Savoie, a meeting is taking place this Monday, April 5 to analyze the epidemic situation in the department and rule on the need or not for deprogramming. However, the situation should very probably be the same as in Savoie in the coming days says one in Annecy.
