Saudi Threats to Ban Three Years of Citizens Who Come to Indonesia

Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

Government Saudi Arabia threatens to ban its citizens for three years if caught traveling to red-listed countries, including Indonesia.

“Anyone found to be involved (traveling) will be held accountable and severely punished upon their return, and will be banned from traveling for three years,” said an official at the Saudi Interior Ministry.

As reported Reuters, Indonesia is one of the countries included in the red list along with Afghanistan, Argentina, Brazil, Egypt, Ethiopia, India, Lebanon, Pakistan, South Africa, Turkey, Vietnam, and the United Arab Emirates.

The Saudi Ministry of Home Affairs official stated that his party took this decision after finding that a number of citizens who had the privilege to travel during the pandemic had violated these rules.

“The Ministry of Home Affairs stressed that nationals are still prohibited from traveling directly or through other countries to this country or other countries that have not yet brought the pandemic under control or where a new variant has spread,” the official said.

Saudi Arabia is continuing to tighten border rules to reduce the rate of transmission of Covid-19 in the country.

The implementation of these strict rules is considered successful in suppressing the transmission of the corona virus in the country. Covid-19 cases in Saudi Tuesday (27/7), for example, were recorded at 1,379, lower than the daily average in June 2020 which reached 4,000.
