Saudi Foreign Minister: Stopping the fighting in Gaza is not a priority for the world

Saudi Foreign Minister Prince Faisal bin Farhan said on Friday in Washington that the fighting in Gaza must stop immediately, but governments around the world do not seem to consider this a priority, and that a credible road map for establishing a Palestinian state must also be developed..

Bin Farhan added in a press conference before the meeting of Arab foreign ministers and US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken, “Our message is consistent and clear, which is that we believe it is absolutely necessary to end the fighting immediately.”

He went on to say, “One of the troubling facts in this conflict is that ending the conflict and fighting does not seem to be the main priority” for the world.

“We must also see a significant boost to humanitarian aid,” he added. “It is unacceptable to restrict (aid due to) bureaucratic obstacles,” he said.

Robert Wood, Deputy US Representative to the United Nations, said at a UN Security Council meeting earlier today that the United States strongly supports permanent peace in Gaza, but “we do not support calls for an immediate ceasefire.”

Wood added, “This will only plant the seeds of the next war because Hamas does not want to see lasting peace.”
