Saudi fines people approaching the Grand Mosque ahead of Hajj

Government Saudi Arabia will impose a fine on anyone who tries to approach the complex Masjidil Haram in Mecca and a number of worship sites hajj others without permission this year.

The ban was announced by the Saudi Ministry of Interior on Monday (5/7), more than a week before the 2021 Hajj pilgrimage which was held in a limited manner.

Saudi Arabia said a fine of 10,000 riyals or Rp38.56 million would be given to anyone found trying to enter or approach the Grand Mosque, Kaaba, and other places of pilgrimage such as Mina, Muzdalifah, to Arafat without permission.

The Ministry of Home Affairs also added that if there were repeated violations, the fine would be doubled.

Reported Al-Arabiya, King Salman’s government will deploy security forces to monitor all roads, passages and areas leading to the Grand Mosque and other holy places.

That, according to the news agency SPA, carried out by the Saudis to control “any violations that may occur” ahead of and during the Hajj pilgrimage which takes place between July 17 and 22.

The guidelines are enforced to ensure the compliance of prospective pilgrims, residents, and the pilgrimage committee this year in order to prevent the spread of the corona virus.

The Saudi government has so far recorded about 20,214 violations committed over the past week.

The Saudis once again had to limit the title of pilgrimage this year because the corona virus pandemic is still spreading around the world. Riyadh decided to accept only 60,000 local pilgrims and expatriates who were already in the country.

The prospective local pilgrims must also meet a series of conditions, starting from the Covid-19 vaccination requirements, minimum and maximum age, and health conditions in order to be accepted as 2021 Hajj pilgrims.

Recently, Saudi Arabia also announced a series of policies to prevent the transmission of Covid-19 during the 2021 Hajj pilgrimage, one of which is by sterilizing the Grand Mosque up to ten times a day.

The General Presidential Agency for the Affairs of the Two Holy Mosques Saudi said that they recruited 5,000 people who would be tasked with sterilizing the Grand Mosque and its surroundings.

Saudi Arabia has prepared more than 60,000 liters of disinfectant liquid per day and other cleaning technologies to meet the sterilization needs of the Grand Mosque.

The government will also deploy robots carrying sterile Zamzam water bottles so that pilgrims don’t get crowded when they want to drink.
