Saudi Father’s Organ Donation Saves Six Lives

In a humanitarian gesture, a Saudi citizen donated the organs of his brain-dead son, to save the lives of 6 patients.

reported Saudi Press Agency That a brain-dead young Saudi man saved “the lives of six citizens and ended their suffering with diseases of terminal organic insufficiency, after his father donated his organs for God’s sake after diagnosing his condition according to the approved national protocol for diagnosing brain death.”

The agency stated that the father’s initiative, “who donated the organs of his sixteen-year-old son, drew smiles on the faces of patients and their families, and reflected the spirit of loyalty and love for others, and saving wages for his deceased son.”

The operations included “the heart transplantation of a 7-year-old child who suffered from heart failure, one kidney transplanted to a 12-year-old child, while the other kidney was transplanted to a 16-year-old patient, and the lungs were transplanted to a 68-year-old patient.”

And the pancreas was transplanted with a kidney from a living donor for a 31-year-old patient who suffered from hemodialysis sessions and diabetes, in addition to liver transplantation for a 29-year-old patient, ending her suffering with liver failure.

The Director General of the Saudi Center for Organ Transplantation, Dr. Talal Al-Qoufi, told the agency, “The process of removing and transplanting organs took place at a record speed, in accordance with medical ethics, and to ensure fair distribution according to medical priorities.”

He added, “The achieved success came as a result of the joint cooperation between all concerned parties, including the Medical City Administration at King Saud University, the center’s team, and the participating medical teams from the transplant hospitals.”
