The Saudi government also recalled its ambassador to Beirut.
The expulsion of the Lebanese ambassador came after a heated feud between the two countries was sparked by the minister’s comments in Beirut criticizing Saudi Arabia and its coalition’s war in Yemen.

Not only expelling the ambassador, Riyadh also ordered an immediate halt to all imports from Lebanon. The decision was announced by the Saudi Arabian Ministry of Foreign Affairs in a statement Al Arabiya English, Saturday (30/10/2021).
The ministry said Riyadh’s decision was in response to “derogatory remarks”, made during an interview given by Lebanese Information Minister George Kordahi before he became minister.
Kordahi said Yemen’s Iran-backed Houthi group was defending itself and described the years-long war in Yemen as futile.
“Saudi Arabia has affirmed its interest in the Lebanese citizens living in the Kingdom, who are considered part of the fabric and bond that unites the Saudi people and their Arab brothers living in the Kingdom,” the Saudi Foreign Ministry statement read.
The ministry added that it did not consider that what Kordahi said reflected the position of the Lebanese community living in the Kingdom.
