The city of the future with a length of 170 km called Neom, the construction of which was announced in 2017, will receive the first tourists and residents in the first quarter of 2024. informs Arabian Business.

Neom will be located along the coast of the Red Sea in the far northwest of Saudi Arabia and will include the maritime territory located at the Egyptian and Jordanian borders.

The preliminary cost of the project, supported and financed by the Saudi State Investment Fund, as well as a number of private companies, is $ 500 billion.

According to project executive director Nadmi al-Nasr, staff are still developing regional master plans and a “founding law” for Neom, but Saudi Arabia has already begun pouring land and tunneling through the mountains. They plan to start building the city from two extreme points and lead to the center.

Neom will be the crown jewel of Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud’s program to overhaul the economy of the world’s largest oil exporter, and will provide many investment opportunities across an area of ​​26,500 square kilometers.

Al Saud plans to turn the remote region on the northwest coast of the Kingdom’s Red Sea into a futuristic technology center that will include the main elements of his so-called Vision 2030 to reduce Saudi Arabia’s dependence on oil production, diversify its economy, and weaken social restrictions and increased investment.

The construction work that has begun is mainly limited to the preparation of the territory for the infrastructure. It is assumed that the city will not have roads for cars and land transport, all transport and transportation will be lowered underground. Electricity will be supplied by solar panels and other renewable energy sources, and the city will be provided with food using new technologies and seawater desalination farms.
