Satpol PP Forcibly Dismissed August 17 Competition in East Jakarta

JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com – The Civil Service Police Unit officers forcibly dispersed participants and spectators contest August 17 at two locations in East Jakarta, Monday (17/8/2020) afternoon.

“17 activities were disbanded in Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara, and at Pintu Air, Malaka Sari,” said East Jakarta Satpol PP Head of Operations Badrudin in Jakarta.

Efforts to disperse the crowd of participants and race spectators involved 10 Satpol PP personnel.

Efforts to disperse the masses were carried out persuasively through the socialization of dangers Covid-19 as well as circulars from the local government.

Badrudin said that his party was following up on information about the crowded situation of residents that had gone viral on social media.

In accordance with the call of the Governor of DKI Jakarta Number 14 of 2020 regarding the implementation of competitions not allowed during the Covid-19 pandemic period.

The mass dispersal was carried out at around 12.30 WIB on Jalan Inspeksi Kampung Pulo RT 14 RW 03, Kampung Melayu.

“The activity has been disbanded and coordinated with the head of the local RT and provided education to the community for the time being to always wear masks, keep their distance,” he said.

One of the contestants, Karyadi (47), said that the competition in Kampung Melayu is an annual routine agenda which is held every August 17 celebration.

“There are several competitions, including taking coins, sack racing, and dancing competitions,” he said.

This activity is the aspiration of local residents which is held by the management of RT and Karang Taruna as the committee.

Efforts to disperse the competition were carried out in an orderly manner supervised by Satpol PP officers.

All competition equipment was dismantled and the tents and chairs tidied up by officers and residents.
