This word recently circulated in cyberspace, after Malaysia urged greater vigilance on its population after detecting the D614G mutation from the recent coronavirus.
Quoting Channel News Asia, Malaysia’s Health Director General Noor Hisham Abdullah said, D614G, a new strain of the corona virus detected in two clusters in the neighboring country, is 10 times more contagious.
Apart from Malaysia, the D614G is also found in Singapore and the Philippines.
What is the D614G?
Also called the “G” mutation, D614G is a variation of the original strain of the coronavirus that was first detected in the Chinese city of Wuhan in December last year.
