Last year, Jānis Čakstiņš was suspended from the position of the President, and until the meeting of members held in October 2019, his duties were performed by the Secretary General of the organization Natalija Prokofjeva.

At the Board meeting in September this year, it was decided that the LVF election session will take place on December 7 this year and will elect a President, Secretary General, nine Board members, two Vice-Presidents and three members of the Audit Commission for the next four years.

Only the current leaders have been nominated for the main positions of LVF – President Sapronenko and Secretary General Prokofiev.

16 persons have been nominated as members of the LVF Executive Committee, including the Olympic champion Igors Vihrovs, but five candidates are applying for the positions of a member of the LVF Audit Commission.

Sapronenko won a silver medal in the support jump at the 2004 Summer Olympics. He is also the 1999 world vice-champion in this discipline, winning the first medal in the planetary championship for independent Latvia that year.

In recent years, Sapronenko has been working as a boxing promoter, but at one time he was the vice-president of LVF for eight years.

LVF was founded in 1990, but two years later it was recognized by the International Gymnastics Federation and the European Gymnastics Union.

LVF manages and coordinates work in all types of gymnastics: sports gymnastics, artistic gymnastics, trampoline jumping, sports aerobics and folk gymnastics.
