San Giuseppe blaze in Palermo, ambush on municipal police

(ANSA) – PALERMO, MARCH 19 – An ambush was organized last night on the municipal police of Palermo, after repeated interventions by the police to extinguish and remove the blazes of San Giuseppe, enormous wood bonfires, old furniture and furnishings piled up for days and set on fire last night in the popular neighborhoods of the city. A phone call to 112 reported a car on fire in the Brancaccio district, with injuries. A patrol from the accident section with two policewomen intervened. But the streets around the car set on fire, a Smart, had been blocked with some bins, making maneuvers complicated. The municipal police van was stoned and the windows shattered. The two policewomen, who remained miraculously unharmed, were quick enough to get back on the vehicle and find shelter in the nearby railway depot after being chased.
