The San Antonio Spurs started the first of four away games in the National Basketball Association (NBA) on Sunday with a 110-108 win over the Golden State Warriors. Jakob Pöltl contributed seven points, 14 rebounds, two assists and one block. The center from Vienna was in action for 25:43 minutes.
The decision in San Francisco came in the final second. After Pöltl equalized with a free throw and missed his second attempt, Keldon Johnson grabbed the rebound and scored 110:108. Exactly 0.3 seconds were left on the clock. “A good start to the road trip,” the Austrian NBA pioneer stated succinctly.
Josh Richardson led San Antonio by 25 points. The Warriors’ top scorers were Jordan Poole (28) and Klay Thompson (24) in Stephen Curry’s absence. The superstar may be out for the remainder of the NBA regular season with a sprained ligament in his left foot. The Spurs continue on Wednesday with the Portland Trail Blazers.
In the fight for tenth place, which still entitles them to participate in the play-in called play-off qualification, the New Orleans Pelicans are now victorious 30-41 after a 117-112 win over the Atlanta Hawks, as is the Los Angeles Lakers . San Antonio follows in eleventh place with a 28:44 record.
