Gone are the days of fitness tapes. Samsung has just unveiled the new feature of Samsung Heath, capable of capturing the movements of athletes during their training sessions.
Playing sports at home is not always easy. The lack of an outside eye on the movements can sometimes lead to injury and or make an exercise less effective. Yet, as the pandemic pushes gyms to keep doors closed, home sports have never been more popular. Aware of this phenomenon, Samsung has launched a new feature to its Samsung Health app. As a reminder, the fitness app was launched last year on Q7 series televisions. In 2021, Samsung is going further by providing its new products with a coach intelligent. Called Smart Trainer, the functionality analyze the efforts of the user and his positions through a external camera. The brand has no plans to include any in its new Q7 iterations.
Engadget had the opportunity to test it in New York and details the process. According to our colleagues, this is quite effective since the camera was able to detect the number of repetitions in each exercise and also correct posture when necessary. On the other hand, it is not yet perfect since the journalist notes that sometimes the Smart Trainer refused a movement when it was carried out a little outside the field of view of the camera. It should also be noted that the purchase of a camera is not necessarily practical and that according to the quality of this one, the efficiency could undoubtedly be different. It also seems that she has trouble making out the sportsmen dressed in black, even when they are in front of a white background. Note that the functionality is still in its infancy since only 24 videos will be available at launch. As noted by our colleagues from Engadget, Samsung will have to continue this momentum and improve its copy. But it’s still quite encouraging.
