The South Korean company Samsung announced the launch of mass production of a 31.5-inch QD-OLED monitor with support for 4K resolution and a record refresh rate of 360 Hz for such panels. In addition to this, the company intends to soon launch production of 27-inch QD-OLED displays with a resolution of 1440p and a refresh rate of 360 Hz.

Samsung is trying to attract the attention of consumers by releasing monitors with a more familiar and popular aspect ratio among consumers. Both announced new products have an aspect ratio of 16:9. Samsung managed to achieve a pixel density of 140 PPI in a 31.5-inch monitor, which is equivalent to the pixel density of a 65-inch 8K TV.

As for the 27-inch monitor, it will feature a 0.03ms response time coupled with a 360Hz refresh rate, which the company says has been achieved using the Quantum Enhancer algorithm. Thus, this monitor is aimed at the gamer audience.

According to Samsung, shipments of QD-OLED monitors by the end of 2023 increased to 600 thousand units, which is four times more than in 2022. The company also claims that 30-inch monitors with 1440p resolution have become a common choice, and in 2024 consumers will be inclined to purchase models with 4K resolution. Although 4K monitors have been available on the market for several years, their adoption rate has been slow. According to Steam statistics for November 2023, only 3.72% of users of the service have 4K monitors, another 15.97% of users have monitors with a resolution of 1440p, and 60.09% of users work with 1080p monitors.

As for the announced 31.5- and 27-inch Samsung monitors, at the moment nothing more is known about their technical characteristics. More detailed data is expected to become known early next year when CES 2024 takes place.
