Samsung is said to be launching a more affordable version of its foldable cellphone in 2024

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Foldable phone is one of the promising innovations in the world of technology. Samsung is a manufacturer that has popularized folding cellphone models through its two lines, namely the Galaxy Z Flip and Galaxy Z Fold.

Both are premium class cellphone lines so the price tag is high. However, Samsung is now said to be working on a foldable cellphone with a relatively affordable price.

According to the research firm Trend Forcesources from the supply chain department indicate that Samsung is also planning to bring foldable phones to the mid-range market next year.

While it’s not clear what form factor Samsung will be aiming for, or how low the price will be, rumors suggest the price could be around US$400-500 (around Rp. 6.2-7.8 million). This year, the lowest price for a foldable phone has dropped to 3,659 yuan (RMB) which is a new record.

In the coming year, more manufacturers will introduce foldable cellphone products with higher value, thereby accelerating the wider adoption of foldable cellphones.

The report notes that the driving force behind the expansion of the foldable device market is cost reduction and expansion strategies of Chinese brands.

Foldable phones are expected to represent 1.6 percent of the total smartphone market with 18.3 million units sold in 2023, increasing to 2.2 percent with 25.2 million units sold in 2024. In 2027, distribution is expected to reach 70 million units, or covers 5 percent of the total global mobile phone market.

Reporting from Gadgets Now, manufacturers are pushing the boundaries of product design and innovation to enhance the user experience. While dual-screen phones face size limitations, several companies are already exploring the possibility of triple-screen devices.

According to industry insiders, Huawei made significant progress in developing a triple-screen phone. Two triple-screen phones are expected to be released in 2024.
