Samsung introduced the mid-budget 5G processor Exynos 880. Reedus

South Korean company Samsung introduced a new mid-range processor Exynos 880. Its main feature was the presence of an integrated 5G modem.

Exynos 880 has become a stripped-down version of last year’s Exynos 980. It has nothing to do with the flagship Exynos 990 processor, which runs the flagship smartphones of the Samsung Galaxy S20 line. The novelty consists of eight cores, divided into two clusters. The first – high-performance consists of two Cortex-A77 cores with a clock frequency of 2 GHz, the second – energy-efficient has six Cortex-A55 cores with a clock frequency of 1.8 GHz. For graphics meets the Mali-G76 MP5 video accelerator. The integrated 5G modem provides operation in the Sub-6 GHz band, there is no support for millimeter waves.

Exynos 880 supports displays up to FullHD +. The maximum resolution of supported cameras is 64 megapixels. The processor is capable of decoding 4K video at a speed of 30 frames per second using the HEVC (H.265), H.264 and VP9 codecs. It does not support the latest LPDDR5 RAM standard – only LPDDR4X. UFS 2.1 / eMMC 5.1 ROM standards are also supported.

Samsung does not say what performance the Exynos 880 has, so it’s not yet possible to predict whether it can compete with the MediaTek Dimensity 820, which now shows not only the best performance result in the mid-budget segment, but also overtakes some flagship processors.
