‘Samsung comes to the Netherlands to buy ASML chip machines and NXP Semiconductors’

Samsung vice president Lee Jae-yong is reportedly coming to the Netherlands this month to invest heavily in Dutch tech companies, according to several anonymous sources. According to the rumor mill, the CEO is coming to the Netherlands because the company is interested in Extreme Ultraviolet chip machines from ASML. There is even talk of a possible takeover of NXP Semiconductors, the semiconductor giant from Eindhoven.

Of course, Samsung has not yet officially announced anything about Lee’s journey. The CEO, on the other hand, requested a temporary stop to legal proceedings last month in order to be able to make a trip to the Netherlands. Around the same time, Samsung announced that it would invest $355 billion in next-gen chip technology. This is an investment over a period of five years. Although the largest part is invested in South Korean companies, there are rumors that a part will also come to the Netherlands.

It is not the first time that NXP Semiconductors has been mentioned as a potential future subsidiary of Samsung. With a market value approaching $50 billion, that would take a significant bite out of Samsung’s promised investment pool, so that rumor should be taken with a grain of salt. The company, on the other hand, has been looking for ways to better arm itself against the prominent presence of TSMC in the global market.

Lee Jae-yong would in any case visit the picturesque North Brabant cities of Veldhoven and Eindhoven on behalf of Samsung to invest billions in Dutch tech.
