It is still unclear when the Samsung 980 Pro SSD with PCIe 4.0 shown in January will reach the market. A notorious Samsung insider provides at least one new note on Twitter, according to which the publication is expected in August at the latest.

The Twitter user Ice universe @UniverseIce is known for authentic information about new Samsung products and is considered an insider. According to his tweet today, the Samsung 980 Pro SSD will be released within two months, making August the latest date.

Samsung had shown the 980 Pro SSD at CES 2020. According to a media report from Japan, the global market launch was supposed to take place in February, but this did not happen. Samsung had more information about a website for the second quarter of 2020 promised, but there is still no trace of it.

The Samsung 980 Pro is Samsung’s first consumer SSD to use PCIe 4.0 as an interface. Transfer rates of 6,500 MB / s reading and 5,000 MB / s writing have been promised, which outperforms the competition with the Phison E16 controller. In the usual M.2 format, there should be storage capacities of 250 GB, 500 GB and 1 TB.

With the 870 QVO, another Samsung SSD is in the starting blocks, but the focus is not on performance, but the storage capacity of up to 8 TB.
