SAMARINDA.NIAGA.ASIA In addition to COVID-19, Samarinda residents are also asked to be aware of the bites of the Aedes aegypti mosquito which can transmit dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF), especially DHF regardless of age, from toddlers to the elderly can be targets for mosquito bites.

The head of the Samarinda Health Service, Dr. Ismed Kusasih, said that since the beginning of January there have been 75 residents of Samarinda City who have contracted dengue fever, so he appealed to the public to anticipate its spread through the 3M Plus movement.

“Not all of the 75 residents infected with DHF attack children, some are adults, but they are dominated by children,” said Ismed accompanied by the Head of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control (P2PM) dr Budi Triato Hadi.

The 3M Plus movement is to drain water reservoirs, close water reservoirs, and bury used goods. While the plus is meant to avoid mosquito bites, sleep using mosquito nets, and light or smear the skin with mosquito repellent.

According to him, since June last year his party has always reminded the public to anticipate the spread of DHF, because cases of DHF in Samarinda have started to show symptoms since April 2021, even in every puskesmas spread over 10 sub-districts, they are constantly reminded to always provide understanding to the community.

The increase in dengue cases is influenced by the weather in Samarinda, which experiences rain almost every day, so this causes puddles of water in a number of sunken places and used goods. In this puddle, mosquito larvae appear.

For that, he said, the effective way to break the chain of the spread of dengue is to kill the mosquito larvae, namely the 3M method, so that the larvae do not have time to grow into adult mosquitoes.

Meanwhile, to kill adult mosquitoes, he admitted that he had carried out fogging in a number of locations, both fogging carried out by the Samarinda Health Office and at each health center, as well as fogging carried out in collaboration with volunteers.

“If there are volunteers doing fogging, they must coordinate with us because the operators, equipment, and insecticides are also from us. From here, we know which locations are fogging done with volunteers, like what was done in Sempaja Timur Village on Sunday, three days ago,” said Budi. (adv)
