Salzburg Festival is celebrating its 100th birthday

The Salzburg Festival celebrates its 100th birthday on Saturday: On August 22nd, 1920, the first “Jedermann” in front of the Salzburg Cathedral marked the birth of the festival, which has become one of the most important in the world. The festival has therefore declared this Saturday to be “Everyman’s Day”, on which, among other things, there will be readings by several Jedermann performers in the city.

In addition, several “Jedermann” performances from previous years will be shown on the video wall on Kapitelplatz. The festival performance will then take place at 9 p.m., which will also be visited by Federal President Alexander Van der Bellen and his German counterpart Frank-Walter Steinmeier. The piece by Hugo von Hofmannsthal is on the festival program every year with only two interruptions in the years 1922 to 1925 and 1938 to 1945.
